Toca Boca launches in Japan!

Candlewick is excited to announce that from May we began working with a new client – renowned Swedish app-developer and all-round house of fun, Toca Boca! Our team were literally dancing when our proposal was accepted – firstly because we are all still kids at heart, and however much an app is advertised as ‘for between 4 and 7 year-olds’, doesn’t stop us enjoying it just as much. And because this exciting new brand is really, really fun – and the Toca Boca team are super passionate about everything they do.

June 25th sees the launch of new ‘Life Series’ app Toca Life: City. This imaginative, sandbox game allows children to choose from four different locations – a hair salon, an exclusive loft apartment, a shopping mall, and a food park. There are 28 characters in total, and you can change their hairstyles, change their clothes, eat a variety of worldwide cuisines, and much, much more. In fact, this game allows for a staggering 3.1 million different character customizations – meaning you can well and truly let your imagination run wild.

What’s really fun about this app is the selection of characters, and the hidden secrets and combinations just waiting to be discovered. Toca Boca has no third party ads, so you can let you children play with peace of mind. But of course it’s not just about letting them play – it’s about playing together, helping them along, and enjoying Toca Life: City together. It’s about communication, creativity, and imagination.

We have been lucky enough to have a peak preview of the app as it was being designed – being part of the process and seeing it develop has been really exciting. We hope you and your kids enjoy this new app.

Candlewick is excited to announce their involvement with the production of “New Zealand With Nadia Lim”, which will be available throughout Japan on Dlife from Sunday 5th July.

“New Zealand With Nadia Lim” is an eight-part series presented by well-known New Zealand celebrity chef and food writer, Nadia Lim, who travels around the country to get a close-up look at where food comes from. Nadia has Malaysian/New Zealand heritage and is a passionate foodie.

Her series sees her not only cooking, but also helping out at a remote High Country sheep station, tasting manuka honey straight from a beehive, eating Greenshell mussels pulled out of the sea, picking boysenberries off a bush and even learning how to milk a special breed of dairy sheep! All the cooking scenes are done on location: vineyards, avocado orchards on an island, farm paddocks and riverbanks. Each location provides a stunning, natural backdrop.

In each episode, Nadia creates an enticing selection of dishes, using the fantastic regional produce she’s encountered along the way. Nadia is a qualified dietician so her food style is fresh and healthy. There are clever tips and advice on how to prepare each dish and close-ups of each step.

It’s a great series – we hope you enjoy it and it inspires you to create your own memorable dishes.

The Candlewick name is also included in the closing credits.

Queen Elizabeth II’s Birthday Party at the British Embassy

As an Export to Japan partner, the Candlewick team were lucky enough to be invited to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday party at the British Embassy. Export to Japan provides British companies interested in entering and expanding their business in the Japanese market with online advice, information and practical support. Since November 2013, Candlewick has been an official partner specializing in PR and marketing.

Japanese, Brits and other nationalities celebrated Her Majesty’s birthday in style, mingled and chatted under clear skies at this distinguished garden party. We were even treated to wax works of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – provided by, of course, Madame Tussauds. And finally, a fabulous portrait photograph taken by none other than David Bailey was unveiled. At 89 years old, the Queen really does show us how to grow old in the most elegant of styles.

The host, Ambassador Tim Hitchens, highlighted the importance of innovation in the UK. When The Duke of Cambridge visited Japan in February of this year, he launched the British “Innovation is GREAT” campaign, and the Queen’s Birthday party offered visitors the chance to see British-developed satellites, robots and other innovative projects from around the British Isles.

There was a great offering of food, each with their own bilateral flair: fish & chips with a shiso dressing anyone? Or tomato, watermelon and blue cheese salad? Delicious drinks were also on offer – English organic cordial, British sparkling wine or a Japanese gin & tonic take your fancy?

Guests were also wowed by the absolutely stunning cars as they entered the embassy – a showcase of the best that Aston Martin, Bentley, Maclaren, Rolls-Royce and Jaguar Land Rover have to offer. Guests had the chance not only to drool over, but also sit in these gorgeous cars – and pretend just for one minute that they owned them.

All of us here at Candlewick would like to wish Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II a very Happy Birthday, and offer a big thank you to the British Embassy for inviting us to join in with these elegant celebrations.
