It’s Autumn, the season of the arts! This week we bring you some of our employees’ favorite art places and stories. First, we have Catherine!

Although I have been in Japan for over 6 years, I am still learning a lot about the culture.

Recently I learnt about the phrase of “Autumn of Art”. It seems that the term was created in 1918- during the Taisho period.

Not only do I love art, I love old buildings in Japan that are a mix of Japan and the West- which was what Taisho Modernism was all about! So the “Autumn of Art” is the perfect time to introduce to you all my favourite art museum- Tokyo Teien Art Museum in Meguro.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum building was previously the residence of Prince Asaka Yasuhiko, completed in 1933. Among the Art Deco interiors, you can see a wide range of exhibitions over the year- from historical interior items related to the house itself, to modern photography and installations.

Currently the exhibition is centred around the theme of Travel – “What exactly is travel?”, combining items of the past with art of the present, it is the perfect exhibition for a time where travel seems finally possible again!

I haven’t visited it yet, and these images are of past exhibitions, but with Tokyo art week until Sunday, there’s never been a better time!

Next we have Asano!

Do you have a favorite art museum? There are many museums in Tokyo, such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and the National Museum of Western Art in Ueno, the National Art Center in Roppongi, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo in Kiyosumi Shirakawa.

Among them, I particularly like the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi. Many of the exhibits are installations in which the entire exhibition space is considered a work of art, and the explanations are clearly and carefully written on the walls of the museum, making them enjoyable not only for art lovers, but also for those who are not familiar with art or have never been that interested in art before.

I like to spend time alone to appreciate art, but I also like to go with friends and discuss my impressions, so I always check out the exhibitions at the Mori Art Museum!

At Candlewick, we support the PR for “ecobeing”, an environmental forum website that discusses enviornmental issues around the world. A symposium “Compass for the Future” was held in September last year to discuss about earth, human life and society in a post COVID world. This symposium was compiled into a book called “DIALOGUE between MUSIC and PHOTOGRAPHY”. The book contains beautiful black-and-white photographs of the four musicians of Music Dialogue who gave a tribute concert on the day of the event. The music was a tribute to those who have built the most beautiful relationship between humans and their tools. Why not pick up a copy in this autumn season?  You can almost hear the music coming out of the pages!

As a communication design company, Candlewick aims to enhance the value of our client’s brands through communication activities that focus on the world and its future. Candlewick is a partner that grows together with the brands that share our values of sustainability and care for the earth.
