This is the season when many people gather to enjoy the cherry blossoms at Chidorigafuchi, which can be seen from our office every year. It is nice to take a walk along the rows of cherry trees, but it is also exceptional to view the cherry blossoms from the office window! This may be a Candlewick privilege. In this issue, we would like to introduce some of the ways Candlewick members spend spring!

First up, Cathy!

“When you think about spring, most people think of going to cherry blossoms viewing but it is never part of my list as I am not very fond of crowded places. More than enjoying the color pink, I love the fresh yellow green of new spring leaves.

As part of this enjoyment, I went to buy new plants at the nursery on the weekend together with corresponding planters to put it in. As I spend most of my waking hours in front of the desk, I decided to place it in my office to lighten my work environment. Admiring plants can create a way to de-stress by enjoying nature and it’s daily growth and transformation.”

Next is Gemma, introducing her plans for the spring season.

“Spring in the UK means enjoying the beautiful spring air, warmer days, gorgeous blossoms and finally being able to sit out in the garden after a (very!) long winter.

I’m lucky enough to have a cherry blossom tree in my garden, so I always try to enjoy the flowers by having a picnic with my son underneath them. If it doesn’t rain!

This year (thanks to the late Easter holidays) we will also travel to the Lake District in Cumbria. The Lake District is in the Northwest of England, and a popular walking destination thanks to its beautiful lakes and rugged mountains. It’s a place of true beauty, and has inspired literary greats such as William Wordsworth, Samuel Coleridge, John Ruskin and Beatrix Potter. We will be staying in a converted barn on a working farm, so are looking forward to immersing ourselves in the countryside, doing lots of scenic walking, and enjoying an Easter egg hunt (chocolate eggs!). And hopefully being inspired too!”

Finally, Barrera will introduce his Spring plans!

“Now that the long winter is over, the spring breezes are beginning to blow in.

Spring is the season of cherry blossoms, and the best way to spend a spring day is to take your time and enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the cherry blossoms. I love waking up early in the morning, listening to music, feeling the warmth of spring, and observing the bright scenery of the Meguro River and the rows of cherry blossom trees while no one is around. It is an exhilarating and a refreshing way to overcome stress. In the evenings, I also love the luxurious time to make reservations at a restaurant along the Meguro River and enjoy an evening drink with my family, friends, lover, or just by myself while viewing the cherry blossoms at night. It is a time that can only be experienced once a year, to reset my mind while enjoying the beautiful cherry blossoms in spring, which marks the beginning of a new beginning.”
